Sweating has become our tradition as well. It is something that we do to spiritually connect, reconnect, recover, affirm, release and embrace … It is also something we do to care for our bodies in a different way. In some cases it is a “reboot” to our wellness regimen or a kick-start! Sweating or banya can be a rejuvenating experience all around.
The benefits of the sweat/banya are:
• Opening of pores and elimination of toxins through perspiration
• Improvement in blood circulation, heart and vascular systems and increase in
red blood cell level
• Increased quantity of hemoglobin
• Intensified capillary activities
• Boosted metabolism
• Increased overall cell oxygenation level
• Increased mental clarity, emotional stability and an overall better sense of
well being and balance
• Alleviation of tiredness, stress and great decrease in occurrences of mood
swings, promoting deep relaxation
Through perspiration the skin cleanses itself of impurities and the heat that causes the body to sweat relaxes the muscles and in turn, relieves muscular aches and pains. The heat inside the Banya extinguishes bacteria on the human body, which contributes to faster healing of scratches, wounds and a vast array of other inconveniences; moreover it alleviates exhaustion, nerve stress, restores strength, recovers good spirits and betters our moods.
There is a Russian Sauna, Wet Sauna, Dry Heat Room and Cold Pool. Each room has a different temperature and amount of humidity. It is advisable that you dip into the Cold Pool for at least 10 seconds between rounds in each steam room. This helps the process of detoxifying. There is also a Platzka or Venik which is a massage with Oak leaves. This also aids in releasing toxins, clearing up skin, improving breathing, improving circulation…
We will take breaks in between each room and to regroup and share. It is sure to be a blessing. Make sure you bring a friend/partner; you will surely regret not sharing this wonderful experience with someone close to you. If there is anyone out there that would like to add anything to this, please do. Share with the other sisters your experiences and insights.
Remember to consult your doctor if you suffer from any serious health condition before you utilize the sauna. This is especially important if you have any type of heart condition – sharp temperature increase can cause cardiac arrhythmia. Pregnant women and people with high blood pressure or diabetes should also seek medical advice before using a sauna.
